here’s what i’m covering in today’s letter in case you’re short on time :)

- how to harness a gut check for alignment before a trip: i.e. do we want to leave feeling even better than when we came, net out, or be consciously a bit extra indulgent (spoiler: there’s no wrong answer here as long as it’s a choice!)
- all the stuff i pack for a trip, and the practices leading up to it to feel my freaking bestttt (the meal i order the night before i hit the road, bloat sos, probiotic rec, the workout outfits that actually get me excited to move my body while away, etc. etc. etc. !!)

mindset reset: choose your own adventure, but either way come prepared :)

in all my time in private practice, i find there are three different vibes for a trip if you’re on a wellness journey:

  • vibe 1: progress
you can aim to make some progress on your trip, and feel even better when you return

  • vibe 2: neutral
you could go more neutral with it – and plan to come back pretty much the same as when you left (not make progress, but also not really lose progress).

  • vibe 3: consciously more lax
go a little more loosey goosey with it, and come back a bit less dialed in as before, but totally consciously!, and plan to get back in the swing of things when you return.

maybe boredom and having zero agenda is your vibe!!! nervous system regulation!! (image credit: jim goldberg for gucci)

i actually think all of the above are great options because they are all really conscious decisions. there’s no real way to go wrong here as long as there’s a gut check for alignment! before the trip, i’d rec doing these quick steps to set yourself up nicely:

  • step 1: ground yourself in what this trip is for
what’s your vibe? what’s your future self craving? what’s realistic? is this a sexy fun trip? a core memory vibe with kids or friends? a work thing? something in between? the more we can zoom out and get a birds eye view, the better we can get at harnessing that gut check for alignment.

  • step 2: set some trip intentions
do you want to leave this trip feeling even better than when you came? would you prefer to more or less net out? or be consciously a bit extra indulgent? there’s no wrong answer here as long as it’s rooted in reality!

  • step 3: set yourself up to take good care
what do you need on hand to feel really freaking good?

once you’re clear on the trip mission statement, you can prepare for whatever adventure you choose :)

i did this exact gut check as i prep for the road trip i’m taking soon with my bf ian up the california coast. i’m soo excited about it, and i decided my mission is somewhere between vibe 1 and 2 – i don’t plan to go full out wellness guru in any way, but i plan to hike a bunch, swim, perhaps lift once or twice, and eat much like i do at home!

below are more than 35 of my trip favs and everything wellness-y that i’m bringing!! easy snacks to bridge between meals, debloating stuff, my pre-travel meal and practices etc etc etc to spark some inspo no matter what version of a trip you’re going on this summer!
