working on my fitness (everything i'm doing to feel good n strong n connected)
why we should workout like golfers, lose our egos, train on unstable surfaces, embrace a c- workout, and make a plan for protein that doesn’t feel like work etc etc etc
here’s what i’m covering in today’s letter in case you’re short on time :)
- my current workout sitch: the exercises (including the golf moves that gave me a waist 🙏🏻), reps, length, and approach
- the mindset that gets me out of a workout funk
- protein timing as it relates to movement (and whether it matters)
- the genuinely perfect greek chicken meatballs and carrot ginger soup
hi hi hi hi this has been one of my most requested letters…i went real detailed with it because that’s what you asked for and that’s what you deserve! also, separately i wrote this essay for
. if you liked half of my son, this one is basically the companion piece with a little more spice. i recently found myself at a dinner with all the trappings of what we’ve come to call “wellness” and as i sat there it occurred to me: i’m worried that my industry is overfocusing on the modern day definition of self-care and it’s distracting us from the real work we need to feel truly well. i really like how it turned out and it’s not self serious at all and isn’t scary or gonna make you feel like we’re all doomed and i’m curious what you think report back xxxxxxxxxxxmindset reset:
lord knows i *wish* i had adopted my current approach to fitness when i was in my 20’s, but i suppose some lessons we have to learn the hard way? my cliffsnotes backstory is that i was a high school/partial college athlete (fellow former rowers, please do enter the chat!) until i got injured by overtraining and it took me many years and a very irritated knee to realize i was simply doing too much. now at almost 40 i do significantly less (more efficiently) and oddly enough i get better results. GO FIGURE!!!
feeling really good and strong for me at this stage in the game, especially after my c-section with oliver has required really concentrated, connected movements and a different mindset and approach. i’m passionate about all of the above anddddd it’s something that has been frequently requested…. so today’s letter is dedicated to my current workout sitch in great detail, and everything i do to feel strong and connected.
things i swear by:
